Pool Building FAQ

Answers to the questions Dallas-Fort Worth homeowners ask most about building a custom pool.

Cost & Budget

How much does a custom pool cost in Dallas-Fort Worth?

Every custom pool is priced individually, because cost depends on many factors: the size and depth of the pool, the shape, whether you add a spa, the interior finish, the coping and tile you choose, the amount of decking, equipment selections, water features, site access and soil conditions. During your free consultation we discuss your budget range and design the pool to fit it, then provide a detailed written proposal.

What features have the biggest impact on price?

Generally, the overall size of the pool and decking, adding a spa, specialty features such as vanishing edges or large water features, premium finishes (natural stone coping, glass tile, pebble interiors), and outdoor living elements like kitchens and shade structures have the biggest effect. Difficult access or challenging soil can also add cost.

Timeline & Permits

How long does it take to build a pool?

The timeline depends on the design, permit approval times, weather and inspection schedules. A straightforward pool moves faster than a project with a spa, extensive decking and a full outdoor kitchen. We provide a realistic schedule for your project with your proposal and keep you updated as each phase is completed.

Do I need a permit to build a pool?

Yes. Cities across DFW require a building permit for in-ground pools, along with inspections at key stages of construction. Requirements for setbacks, barriers and fencing vary by city. We prepare the plans and handle the permit process for you.

What about my HOA?

If your home is in an HOA community, you will usually need architectural approval before construction begins. We provide the drawings and details your HOA typically asks for and help you through the submission.

Building in North Texas

How does Texas soil affect pool construction?

Much of the DFW area sits on expansive clay soil that swells when wet and shrinks when dry. This movement can stress pools and decking if it is not planned for. We evaluate site conditions, and when needed, engineering recommendations guide the steel design, shell thickness, drainage and deck details so your pool is built for local conditions.

Can you build a pool in the fall or winter?

Yes โ€” and it is often one of the best times to start. Fall and winter construction lets you complete design, permits and much of the build during the off-season, so your pool can be ready to enjoy when warm weather returns. Rain and occasional freezes can pause some steps, and we schedule around them.

What if my backyard is small or has limited access?

Many Dallas backyards are compact or have narrow side yards and alleys. We plan equipment access and design pools that fit tight spaces โ€” our completed Dallas project is a great example of a modern pool and spa on a residential lot.

Pool Care & Maintenance

How much maintenance does a pool need?

Plan on regular skimming, brushing, filter cleaning and chemical balancing. Modern equipment makes this much easier: variable-speed pumps, automation, salt systems and in-floor or robotic cleaning can reduce weekly work. At handover, we walk you through everything you need to know.

Which equipment brands do you install?

We work with all the major, well-known pool suppliers in the US and install equipment from leading brands such as Pentair, Hayward and Jandy. We recommend the right pump, filter, heater, sanitation and lighting for your pool and budget.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Warranty terms are detailed in writing in each contract, and we go over them with you before you sign, so you know exactly what is covered.

Do you build spas and outdoor living areas too?

Yes. We design and build spas, decking, pavers, turf, shade structures, outdoor kitchens, fire features and lighting as part of a complete backyard plan.
